Although it may seem a little daunting at first, it’s actually really simple – as long as you know how and when to do it. It’s important to keep on top of your coil maintenance as, it’s essential for extending your mods lifespan. If you don’t keep on top of this, you will end up having to replace your mod much more often.

What is a vape coil?
The coil is the key ingredient in a smooth vaping experience. It is a mix of a wire and a wick inside a glass cartridge. The wick will soak up the vape juice and the coil heats the wick. However, if this is burnt out from overusing, it can cause a horrible taste in the mouth.
How vaping coils break down and how to prolong that
Coils need to be replaced regularly, due to the heating and cooling process that they go through, while eventually wears them down. This is why you need to learn how to extend its lifespan.
One of the quickest ways to drain the coil, is to chain-vape. If you are taking multiple hits at a time you may be drying out the wick as there is not enough time for it to soak up the e-juice.

How often do you need to change your vape coil?
This really does depend on how much you vape, so it can be anything from once a week to once a month. If you rarely vape, you can do it less frequently.
So, how do you know when it’s time to change the vape coil?
Here are some tell-tale signs that your coil needs changing:
There is a burning taste – When the coil has burnt out, you will get a burning taste. This will cause no harm but it is enough to put you off your vape.
It makes a gurgling sound – You should never hear a gurgling sound, so if you do hear it, change your coil. If it continues to gurgle, it could mean that there is a more serious problem with your mod.
The vape flavour is off – Occasionally a weaken coil/burnt coil can make your e-liquid taste funny. Whether you’re adding your Nic Salt or your favourite e-liquid, you want the best taste possible and having a fully-functional coil is key for that.
Low vapour output – Whilst the amount of vapour output will lessen over time, at the end of the coil’s lifespan, you’ll find it’s very low.
How to change your coil in 5 steps:
- Disassemble your mod.
- Empty the tank.
- Pre-soak the new coil wick material with a few drops of the new e-liquid.
- Swap the coils.
- Replace and refill the tank.
Should you get a pre-built coil or make your own?
By opting for a pre-built coil, you can save time and it’s much more convenient, which is why it is the preferred way. However, there are many more adventurous types who like to build their own giving them more control.
